In New York. by violet

I often find that my Netflix queue is full of documentaries. I often feel the draw of movies that tell true stories and expose me to worlds I never knew existed.
A few weeks ago, JP found the documentary Bill Cunningham New York about the New York Times photographer who takes photos for the On the Street section.
Since JP is into photographer and I’m into fashion we decided to make a little date out of it with a stop off at Marination Mobile’s new brick and mortar restaurant.

I started out the evening with one of their delicious SPAM sliders, I should have know it was going to be a good night.  Seriously.  A SPAM slider.

But the night was all about the movie.  At the tiny Harvard exit theatre the crowd seemed to be Corning Arts College students, retired couples, fashionista hipster with JP and me.
The movie was everything a good documentary should be.  It told the story of a man, whom I didn’t know much about walking into, transporting me into a compelling, heart-warming and touching world.
Bill is utterly charming, often hilarious and draws you into to what he has done for decades.  This is a man who has lived his life with such integrity and passion that you cannot help but be inspired.
I don’t want to give away too much about the movie because I’m going to tell you to run not walk to the theatre nearest you to see this movie. It will absolutely melt your heart.

Fried Chicken Easter. by orange

This past weekend the husband and I celebrated Easter with some Fried Chicken with our friends, the Hokes, at St. Clouds in the Seattle neighborhood Madrona.

It definitely was not your traditional ham feast and very delectable.  Every 1st Sunday of the month they offer this amazing Fried Chicken.  It's so popular, you need to call in advance and "reserve" your chicken.  If you are itching for some fancy chicken a la fried - I'd definitely recommend it.

On their menu they point out that the restaurant is named on behalf of a quote from Cider House Rules.  St. Clouds: a place where the orphans come to find a sense of home and family.  Cheesy...but I like it.

signe has arrived!

delicious!

even signe likes it

more please!

I hope you all had a lovely Easter weekend!

mimosa by the pint. by orange

For some very odd reason, growing up I wasn't a big fan of crepes.  I think it was because sometimes they can have a slightly slimey/gooey consistency to them.  Well, my palette has matured over the years and I've come to like things like asparagus, eggs over medium and crepes.  Maybe it's because my husband makes delicious crepes...

This past weekend my friend Kelli and I met up to catch up at a place named Citizen Coffee in the Queen Anne neighborhood of Seattle.  I've known Kelli for over 6 years, we met when we were both studying abroad in London.  Although we didn't stay in touch a ton after we arrived home after the quarter overseas, we ended up both working at Starbucks Corp after college.  During about her last year at Starbucks, we'd meet up for coffee every once in awhile.  She recently joined another Seattle mega-company - Amazon.com.  Since she has left, we get together about every 3 weeks or so.  I'm very happy that we actually are the friends to really "keep in touch" after she left Starbucks.

So this weekend, we choose Citizen Coffee for our meeting grounds.  I was there for my first time about 4 weeks ago with my friend Shelby who introduced me to the place.  I'm the type that when I find out of a good place to eat, drink, shop, etc - I latch on and latch on strong.  No surprise then that I'd be back so soon.  The beauty of Citizen Coffee is the architecture of the building, the sweet and savory choices of crepes, the unpretentious environment and the best part: selling mimosas (with either grapefruit or OJ) by the Pint.  Yes, I said Pint.  Yum.

If you live in Seattle, quickly head to Citizen Coffee and enjoy.
