while browsing i also saw these FUN shoes. pink on the bottom - gold studs - love it! if i had a money tree, i would purchase these. i might even display them in my house as a decorative item...

i just know i would not wear them enough to justify the price.

in the nude. by orange

with fall upon us, peep toe shoes hibernate and boots come out to play. while browsing for boots i've come across a lot of nude shoes that strike my fancy. now i've always thought - nude shoes are really only for those with tan skin. however, i'm starting to get over that and accept that the nude coloring may just be a tad darker than my skin and it'll be ok. here are some of my current nude "i die" shoes.

Nerf War! by violet

This past Labor Day a group of my friends went on a road trip to see our friends who live in Eugene, Oregon. It’s a lovely city where I spent a wonderful four years of my life. Plus our friends who live there just could not be nicer, more welcoming people (thank goodness because we tend to invade their house every few months to live like we are in college again).

Faced with a three day weekend in Eugene with no football game to fill the time, J had the genius idea to start a Nerf war. We loaded up on “guns and ammo” at Wal-Mart first.

It was $10 well spent on my Maverick Nerf gun. Which, I must tell you, I bought solely so I could say maverick all weekend in my best Sarah Palin voice but it turned out to be a worthy partner in battle.

It doesn’t look that scary in yellow but some people have tricked theirs out. If I saw that coming at in a dark ally, I would freak!

We then proceeded to play Nerf gun capture the flag. I hadn’t played capture the flag in I don’t even know how long. Then, we got serious and started using the ATVs.

We had so much fun that we went back to Target later that day to buy both more guns and ammo. We were going to go out and hit up our favorite campus bar but we ended up running around the house like 8 year olds shooting each other with darts. You can tell how much fun were were having from the silly grins we all have on our faces.

If you have a weekend with no real plans get some friends together, go to Target pick up a Nerf gun and let the fun begin.

cooking basics. by orange

with the new violet on board we have devised a plan for getting me to cook. as mentioned in previous posts my cooking skills consist of lean cuisines, grilled cheese sandwiches and "skillet sensations." the husband is a-okay with this situation, however, would of course not mind at all if i started to whip up some things in the kitchen. my parents on the other hand, might be a bit disappointed in me that i do not cook. evidenced by the cooking classes they offered me when the husband and i moved in together :).

well, as violet is an excellent cook and has patience for the novice cookers out there, we are starting a new series called "Kim Can Cook."

i've learned through a couple tries at cooking - it's not just about having the proper tools, recipes and ingredients. there is also tribal knowledge. for example:

- how do you cut an onion?
- how do you know if you are buying good asparagus?
- how do you tell if a recipe calls for a red onion or yellow onion?
- how do you cut an avocado?

luckily, violet withstands my texts as i'm headed to the grocery store or about to start cooking. otherwise i think i'd already be throwing my hands up in the air and calling it quits.

West Seattle Food Love. by Violet

A trip to the market
True confession: I talk about how awesome farmer’s markets are. I praise local, fresh and organic foods all the time. But until recently, I had never, technically, purchased anything at one. I know. I’m a horrible human.

A few weeks ago my friend Melissa and I headed to the west Seattle farmers market. Melissa was a great support system since she is a veteran of the farmer’s markets. It helped that it was a lovely sunshiny morning.

My first ever market purchase was an amazing nectarine that I tried a sample of. Then once I started I couldn’t stop. I got bread, tomatoes for my favorite panzanella.

And the stunning Dahlias that are this lovely fall color.

Bringing Home the Bacon

Then, all of west Seattle is a twitter about The Swinery. So we tried out their bacon this weekend. It looked really fatty and not very meaty before cooking. But I was shocked when it was finished. Hands down best bacon I’ve ever had. Headed back this weekend to pick up some lunch meat.
